One way to help spice up a classroom is through bulletin boards. Bulletin boards can be used for a number of different reasons and can also be a resource to students inside the classroom. Below are several examples of bulletin boards I have made.
"THE YEAR TO IMPROVE YOUR SELFIE"
As a motivation for all students, our team of teachers decided to take photos of each student as they proudly hold up each of their goals for their semester. This bulletin board hangs in the middle of the seventh grade hall- in between all of our classrooms. It serves as a reminder to the students what their goal was at the beginning of the semester, and how they go about achieving that goal.
"GREEK AND LATIN ROOTS: "I'M LOVIN' IT"
This bulletin board is an interactive word wall found on the wall of the classroom. The students have been learning about different Greek and Latin root words found throughout their readings. As they find a word they do not know, they create a "french fry." On the french fry, they write the word, the definition, a sentence using the word, and draw a picture in the inside. They then place the word on the correct root pocket. Students really enjoy interactive word walls like this.
"A GUIDE THROUGH THE NOVEL, CHAINS"
Having a visual that students can use as a resource is very useful in the classroom. A bulletin board presented in the form of a poster is a creative way to outline a book for the students. There is even the option of having students create them in groups and then compile all of their work together to make one, large board on a classroom wall.
"OUR TEAM'S EXAMPLES OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE"
Students take pride in their work- it is so important for teachers to display students' work often. This is an example of one way to display their work with minimal effort. Have your students write an example sentence of one type of figurative language. Their Ticket Out the Door is sticking the example of the bulletin board with the rest of their peers.
